EECE 453: Communication Systems Design

Catalog Description: Introduction to the principles of functional communication systems, design and performance analysis. Analog and digital modulation techniques. Information measures. Application of probability theory to the analysis of communication systems performance. Transmission and encoding of information. Spread spectrum systems. Formerly ECE 228.

Course Objectives:

  • analyze signal properties
  • study pulse coded modulation (PCM)
  • study bandpass signaling techniques
  • understand the theory of conventional analog communication systems
  • study digital modulated systems
  • introduce information theory and coding

·        Amplitude Modulation , Angle Modulation

·        Sampling and Pulse code Modulation

·         Principles of digital data transmission

·        Random Processes, Behavior of analog systems in presence of noise, Behavior  of digital communication systems in presence of noise

·         Information theory, source coding and channel coding.
