CSCI 157: UNIX Power Utilities and Shell Programming
Laboratory Assignment 1
1. Get an ECST Unix account if you don't already have one.
2. Make sure you can access your account remotely using an ssh client such as PuTTY.
3. Make sure you can upload and download files from your unix account using an FTP or SFTP client such as WS_FTP.
(These first three items are critical for this course).
4. TURN-IN a hard copy of the following:
- On all homework please include
- Your Name
- Course
- Section Number
- Date
- ecst login name
- Self-test questions page 27-28. Numbers 1.7, 1.9, 1.11, 1.12, 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, 1.16, 1.20, 1.24, 1.25
- Exercises page 28-29. Numbers 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.14, 1.15, 1.17
You do not need to write out the full question but
you need to write more than just the answer to the question. Keep it
brief but coherent.
A couple of example answers for self-test questions page 28:
1.7 Ctrl-C interrupts a command.
1.13 BSD comes from Berkley.
5. Extra Questions Just for the Sheer Joy of it:
- What are the errors in section 1.12 of the book (at least 2)?
- Why is question 1.17 on page 28 a bad question?
