HOMEWORK # 6: Only few of the questions will be selected and graded but you need to answer every question. If you do not answer all the questions, you will not get the full points.

Each answer should be marked clearly as Q1 Answer, Q2 Answer, ... and include the questions also.

Do not copy & paste from Internet. Write them in your own words.

DUE:

Q1: Assuming classless IP addressing, answer the following:

You are given a class C network address; 200.1.2.0.

a)      Calculate all possible subnet masks. List them both in dotted decimal and prefix notation.

b)      For each of the above subnet masks, calculate 1) how many subnets 2) number of hosts on each subnet

c)      If you have the following requirements, what would be the subnet mask? Requirements: We need at least 5 subnets and each subnet should have at least 20      hosts

Q2: Point out the main difference between “classful IP addressing” and “classless IP addressing”.

Q3: If you are asked to redesign the IP addressing using classful IP addressing and use 32 bits, show how you would design it.

Q4: CSU, Chico network is given 132.241.0.0/16 and the campus network administrator decided to subnet using the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0(=/24). You are given one of the subnets of CSU, Chico network: 132.241.158.0/24 and you need to subnet the address according to the following specification:

a)      Assume “Classless” addressing

b)      You need at least 3 subnets

c)      Each subnet must have at least 40 host addresses

d)      The connection structure diagram is given below:

Show your design by listing:

1)      Subnet mask or prefix

2)      List of subnetids and the range of hostids for each subnet; fill in the following table.
