UNIX / LINUX: Install operating system and its environment, System Administration. The basic UNIX commands, utilities and tools, for example installation and use of X11R6 (X-Windows). Shell script programming language, and Internet tools like MOSAIC 2.6. Also, Web Page Building. With Linux I currently prefer is RED HAT's system. The main reason for this is I have found it provides a method for an easy upgrade of the system (I think this is better then install a whole new system. I have been successful in upgrading from version 5.2 to 6.1. One still needs to check the old configuration file and update the new files, but ... I think its great!) . The different versions of Linux I have tried using are Slackware 3.0, Red Hat 2.1, Red Hat 3.03, Red Hat 5.2, Red Hat 6.1
Local Area Network (LAN) Management: Specifically Novell Netware 3.12. LAN management for computer technicians. Studied and implemented the installation and maintenance of LAN related hardware and software. LAN configuration and maintenance. PC memory management and advance PC repair and maintenance.
Hands on from Design and Installation, to Operational Phase. Install, integrate, and troubleshoot LAN hardware and software for both server and client. Evaluate the LAN's performance, and perform maintenance. Hands on System Management & System Security (e.g., adding and removing users accounts, groups, and managers).
Since 1996 Hands on experience using transmission media and selecting and connecting appropriate LAN transmission media: e.g., 10BASE-T (Unshielded Twisted Pair) with RJ45 connectors, 10BASE2 (Thin Net Cable RG-58,A/U) with BNC connectors, and RS-232 with shielded Null-modem cables. Many years of performing Hardware Maintenance for many types of computers, printer, and plotters. Such as, Powering down the computer, opening the computer's case up and lightly blowing any dust or dust balls from the circuit board, cleaning the cooling fans and vent holes, and possibly removing and reinserting any I/O cards to improve any faulty connection. Keyboards were inverted and lightly shaken to dislodge any derby that may have fallen between the keys, and then lightly vacuumed. Clean the keyboard's keys with a soft damp cloth. Monitors will require the vents be lightly vacuumed, and the screen cleaned with a soft damp cloth.
Trained in the operating principals of a LAN, and the components and standards for LAN interconnections, such as Hardware, software, topology, and architecture. Trained to analyze by investigating the type of system network needed for a company, and determine the best topology, hardware, and software necessary for a practical installation, using the existing size and type of building, and new and used resources for both the server and workstations.
Trained to Determine the level of security necessary, with respect to the number and type of users and departments, encompassed by the network, and prepare a written analysis with recommendations for the proposed or existing network. Trained to prepare documentation about sever, clients and resources attach to the LAN. Also, prepare informational flow charts, and reports on Life Expectancy and Maintenance of hardware and software.
