About Us
Dark Sector

The creatures in this exhibit live in the deepest parts of the ocean. Many could go their whole lives without seeing any perceptible amount of light. Some produce their own light via a mechanism known as bioluminescence. Besides the obvious darkness there are other challenges deep sea life presents. At the bottom of the sea there is incredible pressure. Many of the creatures who reside there have evolved to handle this pressure, however they cannot survive the low pressure environment of shallower waters.
