The ocean is permeated by sunlight to varying degrees, creating zones of relatively high light,
relatively low light, and complete darkness.
This Sector of the Aquarium is dedicated to the 'lighter' side of the ocean, near the sea surface.
The light zone of the ocean typically compromises an area from the surface to about 300 metres down.
The Light sector tends to provide the best food sources,
as the power of the sun is converted into a variety of nutrients by enormous pools
of photosynthetic plankton and a myriad of similar plants.
Consequently, the overwhelming majority of the ocean's biomass will be found in the Light Zone,
along with the greatest diversity of species.
