What is interdal zonation?
The ocean shores in each of the five Biogeographic Zones around Australia each have organism and algae at a preferred distribution range. Furthermore, each individual organism also have perferred habitat ranges up and down each shore, with the upper and lower limit determined by different environmental and biological factors. Quite often a shore pattern of distinct parallel bands of species is created across a shore level with the water surface. This pattern essentially is called intertidal zonation.
