Theresa Strohbin Final Scene
 Theresa Strohbin
Inspiration
  • I was inspired to create this scene because of my love for movies. A lot of the time I will get together with friends and family, order a pizza, rent a movie, pop some popcorn and open up a can a soda and just sit back and relax.
  • Most of the time the room doesn’t get clean up after the movie is over.
  • So I took that into consideration when I was creating this scene.
  • I didn’t want this room to look perfect, like someone had just moved into it.
  • I wanted to make it look like it was lived in.
  • I thought it was appropriate to include two of my favorite movie poster on the wall…Empire Records and Reservoir Dogs.
  • I looked through some of my dad’s architecture books and collaborated some of the images from there with my own ideas.

Time Frame

I had a hard time deciding what I was going to create.

It took me the longest time just finding good textures and images.
Once I found a good wood floor everything started to fall into place and look a little better.

The couch took a long time because I had to figure out how to model it as I went.

I spent a lot of time just modeling objects because I wasn’t real sure what I wanted to focus on at first.
In combination of working in the lab and at home I have spent well over 50 hours on this project.

When I am working I loose track of time and get caught up in what I am doing. Before I know it I have class is already up and have been working the whole time.

Problems and Solutions

Time Management – like most projects that we have done this year, managing your time is always a problem.

I would try to create something thinking that it would be simple, and it would end up taking a lot more time. Most practice, deciding what objects are most important and crucial o complete.

Not knowing all the tools in Lightwave. I would have to use the tools that I DO know how to use to create things that could probably be done a lot faster if I only knew a few more tools. Extending my knowledge of different Lightwave tools now that I have the basic tools down.

My Lightwave at home crashed and wouldn’t load my scene so I couldn’t ass any last minute details and textures on the before it was due like I had planned.  Always have a “Plan B” in cases like theses. Never wait till the last minute to complete things.

Technical:
  • For the Baseboard and Trim I used a combination of the sketch tool and the extrude tool.
  • I used the glow effect for the doors in the back to make it look like light was shinning in.
  • For the couch I used turned on symmetric and I created a box with a lot of segments so that I could bend it.
  • It was a lot of experimenting that gave me my final couch.
