Ken Hibdon Final Scene
 Between Clouds Between Stars
Inspiration

I was inspired to create this scene by Don Bluth's animated movie 'Titan A.E.'  I was thinking of several different ideas, when I suddenly remembered a scene in the movie where the ship is flying between two layers of "clouds."  After sketching out three different scenes, I decided to do this one.  I didn't want to actually copy the scene from the movie, so I changed the clouds' color and created a ship that was completely unlike the one in the movie.

Problems and Solutions

My biggest problems was making the clouds.  I tried a lot of different tutorials, but none of them got the effect I wanted.  I finally just deformed two large boxes, then applied HyperVoxels to them.  I had to do a lot of tweaking with the HVs to get the clouds to look right.  Then, I had problems getting the lights to not cast shadows from the boxes.  I was finally able to get the right group of shadow settings to fix that problem.
