 A Beautiful Day in the Park 
Inspiration

When I started to set up my scene in my scetch book I wanted to make a great scene and I wanted to spend most of time working on plants.  So I started out my scene by learning how to make plants.  My plants are very simple but since they are organic, creating the randomness needed for them to look right is very hard.  Then once I learned the Uv texturing and magic bevel the creation of the stems and tree trunks were very easy.  The magic bevel tool is the tool that worked out the best for making a awesome stems and but it takes a lot of tweaking to get it to work the way you want.  Once the tree and plant were done I had to figure out what to do for the rest of my scene.  So I used saslite and compositing techniques to set up the rest of the scene, which ended up being easy once I had learned some of the tools.

Textures and Images

So I used a three textures and a picture for the background.  I used a wood bark texture for the texturing on my tree, which I received online at http://lemog.club.fr/lemog_textures and if I could have gotten a camera I would have created my own texure instead.  Then the background needed something extra so I got a beautiful picture from www.californiapictures.com.  I used the sand preset for the sand box, however I did not like it the way it was so I adjusted it.  After that I used the lightwood texture for the park bench.  Then of course I had to make my own UV textures for the Leaves of tree and the bush.  

Time Frame

Now, learning how to make the plants in the first place was what took the longest.  It was the basis around which the scene was to be made so logically it came first.  This took me around four to six labs but then after that, the plants went together in a matter of hours between 3-5 hours each.  Of course, there was also scene set up and lighting which took around two labs in time.  So all together it took like 30-40 hours without render time which also took like 3 or 4 hours.  Then of course the time it took to make this report and the powerpoint to show off everything.  So, for reference it easily took over 40  hours altogether, though it will not take that long again seeing how I am now pretty good with most of the tools now.

Problems and Solutions

My biggest problems had mostly to do with UV textures and polygon count.  After a little experimenting with this tool the problem was no longer a big deal.  After that, the problems I had were insignificant like using the saslite to make grass.  Which took a while to figure out so that I could the effect I wanted.  Then out of no where I got stuck with the worst problem ever.  While trying to save my project lightwave froze up on me half of the way through saving, which is just like a file corruption.  My completely done tree got destroyed because lightwave messed up.  That was a waste of about 3-4 hours.

Then lastly references, which other than the text book for this class and Clark Steinbeck help I only went to two places on the internet. Which I only got a picture and texure because I did not have time to make them myself.
