Kenny DiGiordano Final Scene
 An Afternoon in the Garage
Inspiration

I have always wanted to attempt to model a car.  I always noticed the amount of realism that people put into their models and I wanted to try the same thing.  I chose to create a 1979 Chevy Camaro because it is the kind of car that I own.  I figured that it would be a little easier since I know my car very well.  After I began modeling the car I discovered how difficult it was because of all of the curves on the front end.  It was a hard task to accomplish but I think I did it well due to the fact of how many times I have waxed it.  Maybe one day I will have a fresh new garage like this.

Time Frame

’79 Camaro Z28 – 40 plus hours, I do not even know, Try to long
Tool Boxes – 1-2 hours
Work Table – 20 minutes
Peg Board – 30 minutes
Lights – 2 hours (not much to look at though)
Light on Wall – 20 minutes
Poster – Just a few minutes
Garage – 1 hour
Tools – No time at all modeling but I had quite a bit of textures to go in and fix

Problems and Solutions

Problem 1: The biggest problem I had was finishing the car.  It was a long painstaking process and a lot of hours spent.  There is supposed to be a vent on the front fenders that completes the Z28 look.  I could not get it modeled unless I completely remodeled the front fenders.
Solution 1: Plan better to avoid having to remodel the front end.

Problem 2: Rendering this car took hours.
Solution 2: Reduce the polygon count and this will help with the reflection coming off of the car.

Problem 3: It took a while to get the fluorescent lights to look right.
Solution 3: It didn’t hit me till I got to class.  DuH, look at the tutorial that Kong did in class. Thanks, it worked out great.

Problem 4: Making sure everything looked right without waiting hours for the scene to render.
Solution 4: Rendering just the selected items cut way back on render time and allowed me to see how it looks before doing the final render.
