Roxanne LaMar Desk Scene
 A cold room
Inspiration

While looking at the Csci 140 website gallery I became inspired to do a scene that played with point lighting. I wanted a room that was dark and its main point was the lamp. My main goal was to make a room that felt drab and forgotten.

Textures

For the wall I used a rock texture that I diffused quite a bit, so that it didn’t over power the desk.

For my table I split it into two pieces, first being the top of the table and then the bottom of the table. For the top I put a higher gloss and reflection, and on the bottom I made darker so there would appear to be a darker shadow. On the chair I made the seat plastic and the actual frame of the chair I made a beat metal texture. I did most of these textures using the preset textures and then modifying them. My lamp shade texture is vinyl that I tried to make transparent enough for the light to get through. My glass was played with through surface editor, changing all default settings till I got the texture I wanted.

Problems and Solutions

A main problem I had was lighting, I first had the fill light perfect, then I added other objects and I then had to fix the lighting to reflect off the glass the way I wanted. After I had added new objects I never really got the fill light right again. Also the point light inside the lamp, I had trouble getting the light to reflect on the table right along with coming through the lamp shade the way I had hoped. The last problem I had was time and as a result my final render is bare. I did not get a chance to add certain objects that were in my original plan.

The only tutorial I used was for the glass which I found on a Google search which took me to this website http://www.robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/LightwaveTuts/LWPacks/LWGlass/LWGlass-1.html . This was great by the way!!!!!!!
