Ben Guastella Desk Scene
 The Mysterious Workspace
Inspiration

My inspiration for making this scene was more about the mood it created rather than trying to replicate a desk I had seen else ware.  I wanted to create a dark, mysterious mood where the viewer was not sure exactly where this scene takes place.  Whose desk is it?  What is that old book? Who is that woman in the picture?  Along with making it mysterious, the scene also has some “lived in” touches by including the metal figurine, a picture on the wall and the pencil.

Problems and Solutions

I did not encounter many major problems with this scene.  Modeling the lamp took some time because I was trying to use the extrude tool on a group of polygons which made some really weird looking objects.  After I figured out how to turn the initial shape of the lamp into a polygon it became much easier.  Overall, I think the glass objects (Stemmed Glass & Glass on table) were the hardest to texture because you had to have an inside and outside glass texture.

References

I used a few models from http://www.3dexcellence.com/lightwavemodels.html and found a picture of stucco at http://www.eiu.edu/~booth/services/stucco.jpg.  The rest of the scene I made myself with information from class.
