Blake Gilmore Desk Scene
 Dull Day At The Office
Inspiration

I was inspired to create this scene because I have spent many long hours in my office doing assignments for both school and my personal life.  As much as I hate being in the dull office it is a place where some of my most fantastic creations take place.  So I decided to create the place where I design things.  I drew out a few sketches of the office in my sketch book to get an idea of what I wanted to accomplish.  Towards the end of this project I really started to get accustom to the program and the use of the tools and how they work.  I plan to go back over and reconstruct this office with more advanced wire frame construction.

Problems and Solutions

I had some major problems during the process in which I created my desk scene.  Most of my problems came with transferring files from the school computer to my home computer.  I lost files numerous times and had to restart completely at least three times.  I learned a very valuable lesson though on how to make sure that this does not occur again.  Another problem I had during this assignment was to actually get the light to radiate out through the lamp shade.  It was very difficult to get this effect to become realistic.  I had a problem with the glass texture as well. For some reason I could not get the glass preset for my version of lightwave to work but I solved the problem when I came to school and applied the texture with the schools computer.
Time Frame

Since I had to restart the project from scratch so many times the actual timeframe it took me to complete each object was much longer than it should have been.  The desk took me about an hour each time it was completed.  The lamp took a little more time than the desk because it was constructed out of thee pieces unlike the desk which was constructed out of only one piece.  The pencil we constructed in class took about two hours because it was the first lightwave graphic I had attempted.  The part that took me the longest and took the most planning was the lighting.  I spent about three to four hours alone on the lighting by trial and error.  I would change the lighting then render the file to see if I liked the affect it had on the artwork.  The overall scene took about two hours to piece together and get the furniture to lay just like I wanted it to in the scene.  Then I went and added in a few extra objects from lightwave to make the scene more complete.  I did use a reference book for this project but it was only the text that was required for the course.
