Tou Lee Chang Desk Scene
1/8 of What My Bedroom Is
Inspiration

My inspiration was my bedroom.  I thought that it would be interesting if I model something that is actually something that is a part of me.  I tried to do the exact copy of what my bedroom looks like, but it seems that I ran out of time.  So I just model an easier desk and changed the location of where the desk used to be in my room.  I used some objects from Lightwave and did what I needed to do because I ran out of time.

Problems and Solutions

My problem was that I kept on doing the same objects over and over.  I keep on forgetting to save it on my flash drive and so every time I got done with an object I had to redo that one again.  I also kind of slack off the first week and didn't start early.  The table was harder than I thought because I wasn't sure how to make certain parts of the table.  Using the Boolean subtract to do my table was easy, but for some reason I was having problems when loading my table to another computer.  It keeps on turning out weird and so that slowed me down a little bit.  My lightings wasn’t that hard just the positioning and correcting the direction and radius and all the components of the light source.  The textures were kind of hard because I did not know how to do the mapping and making it more realistic.  Like for the table and my light and everything else except for the walls.   Also, the glass was pretty hard since I had to play around with its components to make it look real.

After making the mistakes of not saving my works, I saved it like every time I made a change in modeler or layout.  For the table, I used the reflection to make the surface more like it had a coating on top of the table making it more realistic.  For my wall, I took a picture of my wall at home and just load it up in layout from the surface editor and set it on the walls layer of my room.  For the glass, I went to some websites and looked at them to give me some ideas of how to make a realist glass.  I also did the same thing to the other objects.  By doing that it did help alot since it made everything more realistic.  So I would advise that you go in early on layout and modeler and basically everything so you would have time to go do the textures and lightings because rendering time do take a long time.

I think that the glass took me the longest to do because no matter what I did, it wouldn’t look like glass at all.  It just looked like a solid cylinder with reflections and refractions.  I spent the whole day just doing the glass.  Next was the table.  I think it was the Boolean subtract that messed me up.  I did so many tables.  It was like I made the table every time I start Lightwave.
