Eric Campbell Desk Scene
 Finals
Inspiration

The inspiration for this scene came from the last four years of college.  At the time we began this project I was writing a 10 page paper for my intersession class so I decided to make one of the study desks from the library that I am sure many people have gotten to know very well over the years.  I chose to add the Rockstar can and the placement of the camera so that it would look like the picture is from a first person view of someone who is just waking up from a long night with their head on the desk.

Problems and Solutions

The biggest problem I had was getting the light housing to have the right combination of translucency and transparency so that it would allow some light through but not look like clear glass.  I also had a problem with finding an image of a Rockstar can that was flat so I could map it around the can so that it would look correctly.  I also had to add a spotlight outside of the picture so that the sides of the objects away from the linear light would not be black.  The rendering time for the scene also rose dramatically after I added glossiness to the can and the glass so I would recommend rendering without items such as those to make sure the rest of the scene looks right before adding them.  I spent some time looking for tutorials on making a book and labeling a can so as to decrease the amount of time it would take to do each item which I feel helped a lot.
