 The Secret Room
Inspiration

Long Ago an ancient civilization created a private sanctuary. This sanctuary housed a source of great power which protected the civilization from harm. Eventually the people evolved and their spirit traveled to a higher plain living the sanctuary uninhabited and forgotten. To this day many still seek the sanctuary in search of the answer to the ultimate questions of life, the universe, and everything.

Problems and Solutions

Clip mapping the scroll lead to all kinds of problems.  The tutorial I tried to use did not work.  So I spent several lab periods doing a combination of trial and error and begging for help and eventually got something to happen (though most of the credit should probably go to Frank).  When we finally put the scrolls in layout, the clip mapping completely fell apart.  We finally realized that, unlike normal textures, clip maps affect the whole object when you merge them.  So we left the scroll parts as separate layers and just selected each individual piece while moving them around.

Texture on wall was repeating itself too much; therefore I increased the size which made it look more real.

Time Frame

Denielle Bonasera: 4 hours to create the room. First we could not decide weather we should add thickness to the walls. Then when I cut out one of the walls to add the stairs we were missing the top part and when I tried to add a new polygon it was doing strange things. Finally after starting over with that one polygon about 4 times, I finally got it to work.

Peter Rancatore: 1hr constructing scroll.  9 hrs on textures, clip maps, and learning about fun little quirks of Mirage and all the problems Lightwave has importing textures.

Reyna Arzola: Texture: Searching for textures that I wanted and applying them to the scene probably took 5hr, this includes combining the texture and changing it several times until I made up my mind.

Water: Modeling the water took about 1hr & 30min
Columns: Modeling the columns took about 1hr & 30min
Stairs: Modeling the stairs took about 2hr & 30min
     Cathedral Ceiling: took about 1hr & 30min
     Aztec Pyramid: took about 2hr & 30min
