Mai Yang Final Scene

 Enchanted Waterfall
Inspiration

Coming up with an idea took a while because I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. Finally, after looking at some stuff on the Internet, I came across a picture of Thomas Kinkade’s work. He does a lot of enchanted work such as my favorite, Garden of Prayer  as well as a lot of water scenes. I wanted to make something similar but also different so I decided on making a waterfall scene.

Problems and Solutions

One of the first problems I encountered was making the waterfall itself. I didn’t want to just place on a texture because I didn’t want it to be realistic looking, more of like a 3d painting. So anyway, I ended up subdividing it a couple of times in order to get smoother bends. Afterwards, I toyed around with a couple of the tools to see which ones would give me the best results. The drag tool worked a bit but then it was very tedious so I tried using the magnet tool. At first, it was really hard trying to get it to do what I wanted it to do but after some odd hours, I was able to create the waterfall, somewhat like what I wanted it.

Another problem I had was making the water actually look like water. I didn’t want a realistic piece but I still needed the water to have that water look to it. So, like before, I used the same technique. I used the magnet tool to pull out some polygons around the rocks to make it look like ripples. However, I ended up with a lot of polygons after subpatching it for a smooth look so I tried the qemLoss2 tool, but then it took about half an hour for it to even do this and that was only the first pass with the qemLoss2 tool.
