Inspiration

This continues the story told by my desk scene, Dr. Strangemodeler.  In this secret underground facility, the doctor takes the models he cooked up in his laptop and sends through the render machine.  He is currently in the process bringing the Lightwave cow into being.

Problems and Solutions

At first, the bump map on my wall texture seemed to have area where the bump mapping doesn’t occur.  The bump map had the same scale and position as the wall texture color, but there was a gap in between the bricks that wasn’t affected.  This was solved by making the scenes lighting darker, thus making the imperfection harder to identify.

For the hologram projection, I wanted to create a volumetric light that shined onto the platform.  The volumetric lighting proved too costly.  To solve this, I just used a fake volumetric that matched with color of the light in the bottom of the projector.

For the glow effect and fake volumetric lighting, I used the information in The Essential Lightwave as a guide, on pp. 286-294.
