| | Inspiration
I have to say, I got the idea for this scene from several desktop and space images I’ve found. The planet is kind of a mix between Earth and Saturn. I like the cool colors of the water and land on Earth, but I thought the asteroid ring would give it a different planet look. I also thought that the sun on the horizon and the nebula gave the image a more artistic look.

| | Problems and Solutions
Surprisingly, most of the project was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I ran into a couple of stumbling blocks while working on the nebula. I had trouble making the nebula look real while I was painting it in Photoshop. I ended up making 3 separate color layers and painting them over and over until I got what I was looking for. My second problem was with the asteroid ring. I had to find the right textures and lighting for the ring. Because the far side of the planet was dark, the ring had to be dark too, but at the same time still be visible. I ended up creating a couple of point lights with varying intensities to lat the darkness fade to the far side.
