Inspiration

When I first began drawing my desk scene I knew I wanted to make it different than everyone else’s.  I was browsing around the class website when I noticed another student’s project from last year was done in a space setting.  So I decided to make mine a sci-fi desk scene.  From there I just relied on my imagination.  Originally my idea was to make the scene look like it took place on an alien space craft.  But I wanted everything to resemble a very organic atmosphere.  I designed my desk to resemble a creature all in itself.  Then I wanted to place textures all around the room that would give it a deep sea feeling.  Unfortunately I ran out of time and could not perfect the lights lining my hallway, or put anything at the end of the hallway as originally planned.  I chose to make it look like the hallway just sort of went out into the atmosphere or whatever the viewer interpreted it as.

Problems and Solutions

I think my biggest problem on this project was rendering.  I finished my project on time, but I could not get it to render to save my life.  First of all I put way too many lights into my scene, as well as polygons.  I should have reduced the amount of both of these drastically.  I also chose textures that reflected all over my room.  MISTAKE!  This won’t happen again trust me, multiple trips to the computer lab at all hours of the day and night is not ideal.

Time Frame

I used all of my class time as well as somewhere between 6-7 hours of my own time on this project.  Unfortunately most of this time was spent attempting to render my scene!
