 Tired Night
Inspiration

My roommate and his girlfriend were having wine the other night and they were using my computer.  One of them left an empty wine glass on my desk.  When I noticed it, I decided that it would be cool to try to model something that was real, to try to make it as accurate as possible.

Problems and Solutions

My biggest problem was getting my lamp settings correct so that the lampshade would allow light out and still look semi-realistic.  After several tries and getting frustrated because there wasn’t enough light in my scene to illuminate my objects I added a second light.  I put a spotlight in the scene as far from the desk as possible to create a feeling like a door was open and light from a hall was being cast into the room.

I also ran into problems with my wine glass.  Once I got all the sizes correct I found out that the copy of lightwave I was using didn’t have any of the preset textures so I had to find a tutorial online to make the glass effect.

And finally a lot of my problems came from the fact that I’m not completely comfortable using lightwave yet.   I spent a lot of time redoing certain cuts and moves to get everything correct.  My desk took me the longest of all my object just because I was still getting used to the program.

Time FramePlanning2 hours wasted thinking up a great idea that I scrapped for an actual real life scene.
