 The Untouchables 
Inspiration

My inspiration was the movie the Untouchables that I was watching when I came up with the layout for this scene.  The Untouchables is one of my favorite movies and I like the look and feel of the 1930’s architecture and style.  I wanted the scene to look like a desk of a 1930’s police officer since the story of the movie the Untouchables is about the police in the 1930’s during prohibition.  I looked up pictures of the badge, phone, lamp, hat, and chair from that era to model in the scene.  The picture of the dogs playing poker was my own way of making the scene seem more realistic.

Problems and Solutions

I had a hard time creating bent objects and objects with smoothened surfaces.  For creating bent objects I used the spline draw tool to create a path I wanted and then made a flat polygon disk follow the spline path using rail path.  This would create the shape along the path I created and that could be manipulated into other shapes and forms from there.  To create smoothened surfaces, like a light bulb or rounded glass, I started with a box and subdivided it to create more lines, and moved points to shape the box to resemble what I wanted the finished product to look like.  Then I pressed TAB to sub patch the box and make it rounded.  Sub patch only works when there are only quads in the model.  
Time Frame

I spent close to twenty hours total on the modeling and texturing of the scene.  I took me an hour or two to set up and get the lighting right in the scene.  It didn’t take me long to think up the idea of the scene since the idea came to me as I was watching a movie.  To model the lamp took me three hours, the desk was three hours, the phone took two and a half hours, and everything else took about an hour or less.
