| | You need to find and organize all your work to be used for your portfolio. To assist in your organization, you will create and maintain a spreadsheet listing all your work. This spreadsheet should become a 'living' document - meaning you should keep it around and keep expanding and updating it to help you update and maintain your portfolio.
You need to consider several elements when you start to organize your work. First who is the target audience of your portfolio? If you target is 3-D animator, do you include all your fine art photographs? You will probably need to have a secondary audience. You may want a job animating, but you need to show your modeling and texturing skills. Second, you need to look at your work honestly and rank the work - what work do you really want the whole world (or more importantly potential employers) to see?
To help in creating the spreadsheet, use the basic template linked below. Consider adding additional categories to your spreadsheet. Use the spreadsheet so you can sort your work as you add new items or as your career goals change. Also use the spreadsheet diligently to keep track of where you have stored your orginal work, renders and thumbnails. Using this document will help you quickly address needed updates and locate files to send to potential employers.
