Rules for APCG 389 CreditTop of Page

Industrial Internships are opportunities to work in a facet of your target industry. Use this opportunities to learn and to make those essential contacts and connections.

Rules for industrial Internships:
  • Approval:  Your internship must be approved by the APCG Program Coordinator, Dr. Steinback, PRIOR to your start of the internship.  Through the course page in Vista, you must submit a document describing the internship - company, location, type of company, (animation studio, special effects house, video game publisher, etc.), some of their productions, supervisor name and email contact.  Include a list of your duties and tasks in the proposed internship.  List the number of hours per week that you will be on-site, and the number of hours you will be working remotely.
  • Duration:  To receive credit for this course, you need to work in the internship for at least 180 hours.  Thus internships during the semester require you to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.  The duration for summer internships depends upon the length but still requires the total hours worked to be a minimum of 180 hours (20 hours per week for at least 9 weeks).  Obviously more work gets you more experience and opportunities for more connections.   YOU need to excel if you want a career in this industry.   Prior to the end of the semester (or 1 September for summer internships) submit via the course page in Vista a weekly log of hours worked in the internship.  This log can be a simple text submission with a line for each the week worked listing the week and the number of hours worked.
  • Work Log: You must keep a log of your work - your tasks, what you learned, what problems you had and what solutions you devised. Do not include trade-secrets or confidential information in these logs.
  • Report: At the end of your internship, you must submit a 6 page report (electronic only - PDF or RTF) with any screen shots or other visual elements permitted by your company as appendices. This report covers what you did and what you learned during the internship and must be submitted via the course page in Vista to 4 PM Friday of Final's week for semester internships and by 1 September for summer internships.
  • Work Confirmation:  At the end of your internship, you need to have one of your supervisors send a memo (email is acceptable) to Dr. Steinback (csteinback @ csuchico.edu) verifying that you worked at the company and you completed your assignment. This memo is not a performance evaluation, just a verification that you were at the company and completed the work.   You need to provide via the course Vista account the name and email address of the individual who will be sending this memo prior to Final's week.
  • Presentation:  You will need complete a public presentation about your internship to other APCG students. This presentation should be ten (10) minutes in length and follow presentation guidelines. Venues for the presentation can be CGC meetings, classes appropriate to the internship or other announced presentation times. Submit via the course Vista page prior to Final's week a document with the venue, date, time, and location of your presentation PRIOR to your actual presentation.
  • Presentation Confirmation:  After completing your public presentation you need to have the instructor or other supervisor (e.g. club president) send an email to Dr. Steinback verifying that you completed the public presentation.   Submit via the course Vista page the name and email address of the instructor or other supervisor who will be sending the confirmation message.  Submit this information PRIOR to your actual presentation.

Summer internship documentation will need to be emailed to Dr. Steinback if no Vista site exists for your course. (csteinback @ csuchico.edu).
