Ian Williams Final Scene

Inspiration

Create a scene to commemorate the 300 Spartans that died in battle.

With the release of the movie 300, there has been an increase in the interest in the Spartans that battled the Persians against all odds. They were out numbered ten to one if not more but, this didn’t stop them from holding their ground and slaughtering tens of thousands. Eventually they were betrayed and then surrounded by the Persians but, the Spartans still did not retreat or surrender. They fought like Spartans they died honorable deaths.

My scene takes place after the blood shed, after the Persians have withdrawn and gone back to their homeland. We find the grave of the 300 Spartans; their people have placed the armor of one Spartan on top so that people can be reminded of who they were and what sacrifice they made. The renders that I chose were as a person would walk up to the grave to remember the Spartans and what they would see as they approached.

I Photoshoped in the Depth of Field I also blended the edge of the mound and the ground so it would look more realistic.
Problems and Solutions

One of the problems I had were the creation of the Spartan Helm itself I had to learn a new method of modeling. I used spline modeling to create the helm and I got so involved in creating it I made a tutorial on it to show others how I completed it. Another problem I has was adding bump maps to the textures that I used such as the Rocks for the mound and the ground textures. I used Photoshop to change the pictures to grayscale then adjusted the contrast then I inverted the outcome. I was new to this and it was a learning experience. Also another problem I had was the back drop picture I used was nice just making it believable made for quite a task. I had to play with the positioning and then I had to create a half circle then map the backdrop to it so that it created dept and didn’t look so flat.
