 Welcome to the dark side
Inspiration

This story lies deep in the heart of a 2 dimensional character, Bender. Throughout his life he has always been careless about living. Many times he has tried to commit suicide via suicide booth, not drinking for long periods of time, etc. So once Bender’s evil twin Flexo discovered the amazing world of 3 dimensionality, there was no way bender could resist. Maybe in 3-D Bender will actually have something to live for. After all, the dark side suits Bender just perfectly; living a life of corruption and deceit is always what he wanted.

Problems and Solutions

One of the harder things for me to do was figure out how I wanted to do the appendages. At first I just made some straight discs to see what things would look like and get an idea of how the proportions will come out. After doing this it was a debate to either try making skelegons and bones to manipulate the model, or just make it correct the first time. In this instance, time was not on my side so I had to just model the arms correctly the first time. For this I used a rail extrude to get the shape of the arm that I wanted. I used a Bezier spline curve to create my path, and extruded a disc across the spline. This worked perfectly. Another issue I had was making sure I did not have any sharp edged poly’s in the image. Smoothing was always turned on but each surface needed to be modified individually for it to turn out right. Some post production work in Photoshop was done to help this, as well as the added sign and dialogue.
