 The Akira Bike
Inspiration

I sought out to model a replica of the motorcycle featured in the anime move Akira. I choose to do this because someone else in the class was already modeling a car and past classes have also modeled cars, so I wanted to try something different. The motorcycle is very unique because of the cockpit style seating and its very modern curves and shapes.

Problems and Solutions

The main problem I encountered was learning to spline patch efficiently. Lightwave will only make a patch if all the splines match the right criteria and are selected and arrayed a certain way otherwise it will not make polygons. It just took lots of practice to figure out the right way to lay down points and splines to make a patch with less effort. The other major problem I had was the dealing with the curviness of the bike and very shiny surface, I had to find a good balance of shine and shadow as to not make it look unrealistic.
