 Picasso Aquarium
Story/Inspiration

This exhibit is an extension of a large aquarium exhibit in honor of the trigger fish species; a diverse and colorful fish.  Known for influencing colorful art on land, they are the living art in the sea.

Inspirations: I have been interested in aquatic life since I was young and enjoy visiting any aquarium environment.  Monterey Bay Aquarium is among my favorites and was the biggest inspiration for this project as I designed an environment that could possibly be an exhibit idea.

Problems and Solutions

The largest problem was getting the tank to seem like it wasn’t flat to the viewer.  That was fixable by applying my glass technique that I presented as my tutorial on glass.  By adjusting the properties in the glass I was able to give it a more 3-Dimensional appearance.
Another challenge was the lighting.  Since light went through the tank I felt it was reasonable to have caustic water lighting.  This was an easy fix as I just applied the picture over the light source and tweaked with the light strength for a believable appearance.

One more challenge was getting the room to look like a real exhibit in its “Closed” state.  I did research in this area and remembered that there is a lot of space around the tanks as people usually crowd around and hog up space.  Thus I provided less seating as the flow of people in the room should be smooth and not halted by seating.  A lot of research went into this project in making a believable atmosphere.
