 Never Empty
Inspiration

The idea for the movie theatre came to me on Easter Sunday. This is one particular day that the majority of our country’s citizens enjoy as a holiday. Businesses close, grocery stores close, even some gas stations close. The reason for this is so that people can enjoy the day with their families.

The purpose is defeated by the movie industry. They make their biggest bucks on the holidays. So they stay open. Their employees don’t get to spend the day enjoying themselves with their families, and worse, they encourage the public to sit on their butts in front of a screen rather then be in each other’s company. This irked me on Easter as I drove by a movie theatre and saw the parking lot packed. I wanted to see an empty theatre parking lot just one time. Let the employees have a holiday!

My scene shows this inconceivable notion. My scene shows us a completely empty movie theatre.

Problems and Solutions

I had a problem with the amount of polygons needed to make my rows of theatre chairs making my computer freeze up or shut down. My only solution was to work on that stage in my scene’s development solely in the lab. This too presented me with difficulties due to limited lab time.

I also had a problem with the lighting. It was very difficult to make the wall sconces look as though they were glowing, to make the screen look like it was glowing, to project light onto the seats, and to light up the exit sign altogether without lighting up the entire theatre. The solution to this was to toy with the lights until a satisfactory lighting was achieved.
