Inspiration

I wanted to create the illusion of the desk being a miniature model of a desk scene, complete with a lamp and drawing on the desk.  There is a penny in the image to better portray the effect of a miniature model on a man's hand.

Problems and Solutions

Getting the background image to match the scenes angle and lighting was really tricky. I had to take into account the camera angle, camera distance, aspect ratio, and resolution.  I also had to place the light in the right spot with the correct intensity to match the scene. Getting the cardboard to match up perfectly with the image was tricky, involving a few hours of experimentation and guess/check. I also had trouble with the desklamp's cast shadow from the scene lighting into the spotlight of the lamp on the desk. It intersected funky and I eventually ended up taking out the cast shadow from the lamp completely.

Almost everything in the scene was created from experience in modeling, but I did use a few glass tutorials on the class website. Following along with the in-class demonstrations really helped and allowed me to create the pencil and cup for the scene.
