 Lonely Neighborhood
Inspiration

Most people go off to a faraway college, leaving their home and their neighborhood behind. Since we are all college students, we decided to do a scene where a neighborhood has been left behind by a group of college students in pursuit of their dreams.

Problems and Solutions

Sou:
Problem: Making the house roof.
Solution: Since I could not Boolean cut the roof, I had to make a flat box and rotate it to an appropriate angle. Then I use the mirror tool to duplicate the other half.

Problem: Creating and bending the garage door.
Solution: Instead of subdividing the garage door (which will cause it to lag), I used the knife tool to create the necessary points and be able to bend it with the bend tool.

Ji:
Problem: One issue that comes up with modeling a house is that there are going to be many Boolean subtract for doors, garage, and windows.

Solution: The Solution to this problem can be subdividing the house walls on all sides that are going to have any sort of opening before you start concentrating on more details of the house. Otherwise, there is going to be more problems occurring during the modeling process.

Another problem is working on objects for a long period of time and messing up. You can’t undo something you made a mistake a long time ago so It’s good to save multiple files so you can backtrack if you made any mistakes and not have to start over or work with a messed up project.

Teng:
P: There was a problem in layout when looking through the camera mode. Part or most of the scene would be cut out in the preview and nothing could be seen.

S: The solution was to make lots of test renders; turning off many features and sizing the camera down to the minimum size helped make quick and small test renders.
