 Carpenters Masterpiece
Inspiration

I had no idea what I was going to model at first. I built the wooden desk first and it is a simple classic desk. The model of the desk is a mix between my roommate’s desk and my desk at home. I started to make a simple light, but it did not look right. I thought of all the lights I could think of and one really stuck out in my mind. I have a light at home that I built in a wood works class in middle school. From there, my theme was created. I decided to make the desk, a desk of a carpenter or builder. I made a stool next to give my theme more of the carpenter effect. I modeled the stool after one of the stools I have at my house once again. I made my glass next to get the components out of the way and then I decided to make the hammer. The hammer was probably the hardest object to make in the scene. The head of the hammer was the hardest part because even though I could create it, I had to make sure the shapes I used fit perfectly to make it look smooth. After I made the nails which were a given because what’s a hammer without nails? I also came up with a great idea to make it look like the carpenter was building something so I made a piece of paper. Later I put a blueprint on it. I also put a window in my room and I put a picture of a frame of a house to give the idea that the blueprint was for the house outside.

Problems and Solutions

Problem- I had a hard time making the shape of the hammer as well as making it look somewhat smooth.

Solution- I made a cube and then selected half of it and extruded it to give it a smoother effect. I also used the bevel tool on each side for the same effect.

Problem- Making the scene a little more interesting.

Solution- After I developed my theme, I then could figure out exactly the extra objects and textures I wanted to put in my scene such as the blueprint, hammer, nails, etc.

Problem- Making the lamp shade.

Solution- I just made two cones and one cube and I used Boolean subtract first using the cube on the bigger cone and then Boolean subtract on the smaller cone.
