| | Inspiration The title pretty much explains my inspiration. In the past there was this special person who I used to have a crush on. We talked on the phone sometimes, but I wanted to express my true feelings by writing letters. But unfortunately I am not that good of a writer. If I was to write a good letter, I would have to rewrite it over again. But usually I would ask my friend online to help me out. I wanted my desk scene to look all messy so I had to place some crumbled paper around the desk and on the floor. I also included a trash bin full of trash paper to indicate that I’ve written a lot of drafts. I also made a computer monitor with a Windows screen (with the apparent AOL Instant Messenger window) and it means that I chat with my friend to give me some help.

| | Problems and Solutions
I had a really hard time creating the bars that holds up the desk. I wasn’t able to bend it because I did not realize that it requires more than one segment in order to be bent. Even bending itself is difficult as I want it to be straight as well. What I did was subdivide the discs and then use the bend tool to bend while holding down the Shift button to get it perfectly aligned. Another problem was making the screen and the bulb glow. I tried adjusting the surface, but nothing works. Then all I had to do was look into the Advance tab and there it was the Glow setting.

| | I spent closely around 3 hours creating the desk because it’s a bit more complex than an ordinary box desk. Modeling the lamp took me only an hour, but getting the light set up correctly took me as long as 2 hours because I tried to get the light to illuminate the whole room from the lamp head. Texturing the wall took me minutes, but the texture I spent the most on was the lamp head. I didn’t want it to be transparent, yet I also want the light to go through it so I took my time doing that. Modeling everything else took less than an hour each. | |

I’ve only used two tutorials for this project and one of them is the glass texture by Todd Clark: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~ranger/samples/APCG330/tutorials/Todd%20Clark_Tutorial.pdf And the other tutorial I used was the glow effects by Kong Vang: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~ranger/samples/CSCI140/tutorialsS05/ GlowEffects_KongVang.pdf
