Inspiration

Lately I’ve been really involved in my video games. I’ve always liked video games, but I’ve just taken a higher interest in them lately. The desk was inspired by my own since my games and consoles take up most of the space on top of my desk (my college stuff is on the floor). Originally I was going to include my Xbox, but with a couple of set backs I cut it from the design and adjusted the scene to stay with a Playstation/Sony theme. So there are only Sony objects in the scene: only Playstation games, Sony T.V, PS2, the game disc, and of course the strategy guide.

Problems and Solutions

The biggest problem I had was the Playstation 2. The problem really was making the gaps/ridges. The first problem I ran into was getting the size of each correct. The first one I did wasn’t even close and the second was close and was pretty good, but overall I wasn’t happy with it since the gaps were too big so the PS2 featured in this scene is the 3 rd one I did. Another problem I ran into is that I used a Boolean subtract to make the gaps, but after the first two cuts the third one wouldn’t cut the back out. It took me awhile to figure a couple of ways to get around this since it happened quite often. One way is to subdivide it; another way is to adjust it ever so slightly. Just a little adjustment seemed to help, however this solution was a hit a miss. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. The best way is to subdivide when it is possible.

The lamp was another problem I had, but it was mostly my fault since I had no idea what sort of lamp I wanted. I didn’t want a typical lamp so again this is about my 2 nd lamp I made. The lamp shade was a problem to get right since half the time I kept making it too big.
One last problem: always save your work. I had everything set up and then my Lightwave crashed on me and I lost some information. Luckily I saved all the things I made, I just lost the positions they were in.
