| | Inspiration
Our original plan was to create a scene that had a Japanese Tea garden feel. We wanted a natural looking scene that incorporated bonsai trees, koi, ponds, and a nice temple. Using Google we searched for a base of images that would give us an idea of what we wanted to put into our scene. During this search, Dave came across this temple floating in the water called Taman Ayun. We liked the image so much we decided to completely render the picture itself. Taman Ayun is a temple in Bali built by I Gusti Ngurah Putu who was the emperor of the Mengwi kingdom. The Temple was built in 1634 and is now a major tourist attraction. | | Problems and Solutions
Radiosity Radiosity is a lighting effect that reflects light off objects in layout. Our group decided to use rediocity as an effect on a few of our final renders. Thinking it would benefit our project we came to the conclusion that it was actually a bad idea. Radiosity takes at least ten times longer to render a scene than with out this effect. We solved this problem by un-checking the rediocity box. We recommend for groups that have the time and would like to make their picture unbelievable to use this effect. But if you are on a “time crunch” then it probably would very good idea not to use this effect. Synchronization When our group brought a couple models into layout we ran into problems when the texture of our models did not come into layout. To solve this problem we figured out we had to save our object along with it’s texture before bringing it into layout. The file structure was also difficult because we would store our textures in different files and when layout went to find these textures it could not find these files. So we synchronized our files by organizing where layout would find these specific textures. Lighting Lighting was another problem we ran into in layout, which I’m sure, is always a problem for new students of the program. We could not get the right lighting intensity and our lighting always came out on the dark side. To solve this problem we went into lighting properties and mixed with the options until we found what we were looking for. Sky Dome vs. Sky tracer 2 We started our project with the vision of using a sky dome for which we would house our models. We believed that the sky dome would be easy in that it only required us making a large ball and inverting an image inside the ball. We had some problems with the sky dome. One problem we ran into was the point where the image came together. The image looked unrealistic and if we wanted to take a shot of the scene we had to be sure this “crossing point” was not in the picture. There were also some other problems. For example the image was stretched and pixilated. We found Sky tracer which is a plug-in in layout which actually creates a sky for you. It is awesome! Sasquatch Sasquatch is a “ground making” plug-in you can use to create realistic looking ground that has grass. We needed a great texture for the ground in our scene, but there wasn’t any textures that looked real enough close up. As a group we decided to use Sasquatch. No one had ever used it in our group and later it came out amazingly well. We highly recommend the sasquach plug-in to get great results in making landscapes.
