Jerry Zigounakis Final Scene
 San Francisco Catastrophe
Inspiration

What helped me to come to a decision of what I wanted my final scene to be was the movie, “Day After Tomorrow”. I thought the movie had really cool computer graphic effects, but I noticed that San Francisco did not appear in the movie, so I decided to use San Francisco in my scene. My scene takes place in San Francisco, in the year 2005, after a devastating blizzard wiped out the city. The city can not be found because it is snowed over. The Golden Gate Bridge is visible, but it is frozen over the Pacific Ocean. There is no one in my scene because everyone had to abandon the city or they too would be frozen.

Problems and Solutions

In my scene most of my problems came from making the ice and snow look realistic. I played around a lot with the procedural textures to strive for a realistic appearance. Also I dulled the orange on the bridge to make it look completely frozen. I also had trouble scaling the texture for my ocean waves. I kept scaling the texture up and increasing the bump, but it didn’t look good. So I scaled the actual size of the ocean object down and that improved the quality of the texture to a great extent.
