Robin O'Connor Final Scene
 The Temple Awakens
Inspiration

This scene is not what I originally planned.  What I had originally planned was a scene that would speak to the oddball theories that certain aspects of our civilization came from space aliens, and I was going to show an Egyptian temple with crop circles in the background.  Unfortunately, less than a week before the due date, it became apparent to me that the plug-ins I had available to me would be insufficient to accomplish the task I had set out for myself.  Therefore, I reworked my concept.  This new image is that same ancient Egyptian temple, with its spiritual power suddenly being reawakened on some dark evening.  You might say that the light represents sudden inspiration in the darkness of a difficult situation.

Problems and Solutions

The primary problem here was that I couldn’t get SasLite to work the way I wanted it to, and had to abandon my original concept late in the game.  In the course of re-working this from a day to a night scene, I had some issues getting the lighting the way I wanted it, and in my panicked rush forgot to change some vital settings (like turning on Ray trace shadows in my final render).  I also had a little bit of a problem getting the textures to the level of intricacy that would make the objects in the scene look old.  Fortunately, changing it from a night scene to a day scene obscured these flaws a bit without detracting from the look of the overall scene.  Finally, a major problem I had was that my idea was never really totally solid—I should have made a sketch.  Fortunately, the scene looks fine anyway, so maybe that wasn’t even a problem.
