Peter Mazen Final Scene
 I drink Alone
Inspiration

For this project I wanted to create a scene that was relatively easy to model, but difficult to texture.  I also wanted to create an image that would cause the viewer to quickly imagine their own story, so it needed to be something that would relate to lots of people.  After thinking about my requirements, I decided that a still life would accomplish my goals.

After that, I decided to go with an up close shot of glass.  I researched on the internet and found a good tutorial for a Jack Daniel's bottle, and I went with it.  As I thought about what terrain went well with whiskey, the old West quickly came up.  As I thought about making a saloon, I decided to just keep it simple and stick with a desert so I could focus on the main object.

Problems and Solutions

My biggest problem was learning how to do UV mapping for the label of the bottle.  A significant amount of time was spent using guess and check and searching for a tutorial that clearly explained out to "unwrap" an object.  My solution was to simply spend lots of time and eventually figuring it out.

Another problem was the lighting.  I had a difficult time learning out to "fake" radiosity.  Again, this was solved by looking for tutorials and lots of guess and check work.
Time Frame

Modeling:
Land, sky, cliff, bushes – 3 hours
Bottle – 6-8 hours
Shot Glass – 10 minutes

Texturing:
UV Mapping – 6 hours, mostly trial and error
Bottle – 2-3 hours following instructions
Land, sky, cliff, bushes – 3-4 hours

Lighting:
4-10 hours including watching TV while rendering

Total Time – adding on research time
30-35 hours
