| | Inspiration
I didn't really have any major or specific drive when I began the project. I knew I didn't want to do anything too outlandish, this being my first real time flying solo in Lightwave. So I decided to keep it simple but strive for as much realism as I could pump out of it. Realism, of course, means trying to mimic real objects, so I just began to construct my required pieces out of things I knew most artists would have...an artist's desk, a clunky wooden table, a clamp lamp, and of course some strewn pencils and wads of crumpled paper. Though I've read through some of the chapters in the Essential Lightwave guide, I tried to steer away from actually having it near me as I was doing my modeling...just so I could try and work things out on my own, it helps things stick in my brain better; I'm proud to say I never needed it even once. After my required models were finished, I threw in some random things to add to the overall feel and because of the approaching deadlines and insufficient knowledge, I grabbed a few models out of the Lightwave banks and some net sites to top the scene off.

| | Problems and Solutions
I can't say I had too many problems, besides trying to learn the program that is. As I tooled around with some of the features, most things just sort of fell into place. My major problem was lighting...Lightwave's fast preview settings can be VERY deceiving. For one, the visible volume of my lighting never quite turned out right and some of my spot lights just weren't as dramatic as I'd hoped. The overall light level in the room and the light reflections turned out close to what I'd wanted...but close is just close. Also, the predicament kept me from turning on the distance fog just so you could clearly see across the room...I'll have to work on that in the future...
Other problems...positioning of objects (and some of the lighting you can see if you have a good eye) was difficult in some aspects, mainly because Lightwave gives you COMPLETE control; needless to say, by the end of the project I was sorely missing an auto positioning tool. There was also the basic problem of composition, one of the artist's major factors. In 3D scenes, that largely translates to "Is this scene too basic?" or "Is this scene too cluttered?" Finding that median can be quite a challenge sometimes! Lastly there was the glass with water...I didn't really get the chance/time to perfect this object, so I kind had to just slap on the basics and pull a few tweaks...it didn't turn out too bad for a first try, at least looking at it from far away.
