| | Inspiration
Being a fan of chess, I wanted to create a scene which captures an atmosphere of an avid chess player's living quarters. The center of the scene is, of course, the chess table with chess pieces already moved and many missing. It is as if someone has left the game unfinished. I wanted to create a cozy environment thus I added a nice soft couch and gave it a worm green texture. I also added a chandelier and hanged it right by the camera. I used soft lighting, coming from the outside, to add a sense of tranquility. The shadows which are cast by the blinds onto the wall seem to tie up nicely with the overall atmosphere and remove the need for extra textures by adding details. Paying a tribute to the greatest, at least in my opinion, chess player, I placed Kasparov photo above the couch to serve as a source of inspiration.

| | Problems and Solutions
I was facing a decision to either make my own chess pieces or borrow someone else's models. The solution was rather simple: I used the Lathe tool to create 5 of the 6 different pieces, and imported the knight piece which I found on the Internet. This allowed me to have the majority of the pieces as my own while avoiding extra modeling time. I was also unsure how to set up the lighting and particularly, whether the light coming from the window will be sufficient to lit up the scene. After some render testing I found out that it wasn't and I had to place a lesser light inside the room. However, I didn't want it to look like there is a light source inside the room so I fiddled with the settings until it was just bright enough to reveal all the details in the room.
