Inspiration

Dylan and Russell were doing a group project together and happened to watch the movie Scarface and the ending scene with the inside of the mansion, left quite an impact on them.  They really liked the scene but they wanted to give it their own touch.  The group got together and designed a couple of different layouts to see which one fit the groups style.  By giving the room a predominately red look it brought in a sense of danger to the scene.  The dragons in the center of the room represent a powerful, yet dangerous being.  Also with making the room have a dangerous feeling the dragons also stand for protectors of the room.  By putting the marble on the floors and the gold railing to the stairs it gives the room a more high class touch.

Problems and Solutions

Patricia McCarthy

I only had a few complications with the chair.  I was trying to put buttons onto the chair but it was not looking correct.  I tried to make indentations, by dividing the chair into a bunch of polygons and using the DragNet tool to pull them down into the chair.  It was not giving it a very soft look, so I decided no to give the chair any buttons.  I felt that it looked better.  A majority of the textures were easy to put on, some just needed a little change.

It was a challenge to simply create a basic layout of the room, then the stairs where really hard to get to look right.  The rail clone tool helped me out on not only the stairs, but the railing posts too.  Making detail on the round parts of the room was hard because most tools work on flat surfaces rather than round.  Then getting to select the polygons on some of the more complicated objects was a challenge.  Time was an issue, I think the scene could have been better, but I am quite pleased with the end result.

My driving factor over all was the time limit. It was very difficult to accomplish the things I wanted to accomplish in such a short time. My main problems in modeler lied in getting the pieces of the room to fit together without seams. It was very difficult to get the pool to fit in the room with the stairs and to make the floor line up with the stairs. Another difficulty I had in modeler was getting the textures and bump maps I wanted in order to make the scene work well as a whole. We solved this problem by using the same gold texture on all the accents of the room and by using a similar color scheme on the entire room. In layout I had almost no trouble at all except for correcting problems with the original model. I learned a lot and I am excited to continue on.

I was responsible for the chandelier in our scene.  I must admit that I was a bit intimidated at first, but found the experience to be rewarding in the end.  It was a good learning experience to fine tune my tools in modeler.  The tools I mainly depended on for the chandelier were the lathe tool (for the base of the chandelier), the points tool (for the arms of the chandelier), and most importantly the stretch, move, and array tools to complete each layer of lights on the chandelier.  The biggest problem I faced with the chandelier was the lights, trying to make the lights look realistic and similar for each and every layer of the chandelier.  It was time consuming, but I continued to experiment with the stretch tool until the layers looked proportional.
