Inspiration

Everyone likes miniature golf, especially, all the wacky sculptures that are used as golf holes. Miniature golf is a group activity that gives people something fun and goofy to do. Everyone plays to win, but there is still the absurdity level of competition. The range of miniature golf courses that are available: the run down and dangerous courses to the courses that parents take the kids for a day in the sun. The creative courses available gave us an outlet to express ourselves creatively. We envisioned windmills and castles, palm trees and green grass, a perfect setting for a day of fun and mini golf.

Problems and Solutions

Trisha Derr

We had a lot of problems, we first visualized ponds and waterfalls, but by the time that we got down to making the holes and putting them in the landscape we already had enough to do. The saslite program gave us a lot of problems it was working in the beginning then we started adding all the holes to the scene, the saslite grass just wouldn't render. So we just gave up and opted for Astroturf instead. We needed more dimension to the scene so we put hills in the background and added more trees to put a little shade around the course. We also had problems positioning the holes on the ground and not have them floating and hovering above the grass.

Problems included but are not limited to the following:  Scaling my objects so that they all were in correct relation to our scene.  Also, I had rouble making the log pathways look like wood.  I used the wood preset but it still did not look right.  I had to fool with, and manipulate the control panels to make my logs look lifelike.  The rings started off as too big on my logs, so I had to make them closer together, and less circular.  This created a more natural looking wood texture.

My only problems revolved around hardware, for the most part. Trying out tutorials was educating but in the end, were left unused in this project. My sole nemesis was remembering to create file structure prior to beginning my project. I remade the castle three times because I went to create an object folder for it after finishing the project (duh) and had the program close on me. Also, a Jumpdrive must be manually closed on a PC and can be merely extracted from a Mac (more probs).
