Jenny von der Lieth Final Scene
 Yorkshire Fantasy
Inspiration

When I was in high school, I was in band and one of the requirements was to take a song that we were playing, listen to the whole song, and create a story about it.  The piece of music I chose was called Yorkshire Fantasy by John O’Riley.

The story is about a kingdom where the king was dieing and his son was soon to take over.  The king’s brother was jealous and so made a plan to kidnap and kill the prince.  He took him away to the outskirts of the rival kingdom and just as they were about to kill him, the princess from the rival kingdom found them.  She, being in love with the prince, saved his life and got him back to the castle in time for him to become king.  Knowing she couldn’t stay she ran back to her kingdom but at the last second, before going over the hill, she looks back to see the prince in his castle looking for her.

I love this story so much that my fellow band students and I attempted to develop the story further using other pieces of music; however we were unsuccessful in completing it.  In one last final attempt to bring this story back I have created a picture of it here.

Problems and Solutions

In my original idea I had wanted a forest in the lower right corner.  The princess was supposed to be from the forest people.  I spent two and a half weeks trying to create one decent looking tree.  Finally I gave up and decided that trees were not necessary.  Unfortunately shortly before it was time to turn in the project many people decided on doing tree tutorials but I was out of time and couldn’t spend any more time on the forest.  Also I had difficulty with sky-tracer.  It wouldn’t let me change the color of the sky to what I wanted it to be so it is stuck as is but it still looks nice.  Next time I will spend less time on trees and more time working on the scene as a whole.
