Scott Wooster Desk Scene
 Less Then Productive
Inspiration

I designed my desk scene from a mixture of objects that I had lying around my apartment and my old room in my parent’s house. The desk, glass and lamp are all objects that are in my apartment. It worked to my advantage using objects that I had lying around the apartment because I was able to get the exact measurements. I got the inspiration to use the green room because that was the color I had painted my bedroom at my parents house. I gave my scene the title Less Then Productive because I don’t spend very much time doing any work at it. I usually have to go and study at the library because I get to distracted being at home. I wanted to create a scene that tells the story of my desk at home.

Problems and Solutions

One of the first problems that I had was when I was making the glass. I used the lathe tool to create the shape of the glass and the disc tool to create the bottom of the glass. When I viewed the two layers at the same time the glass did not look right. What went wrong was that the polygons were facing the wrong direction. After we changed the polygons direction the glass was shaped fine. Another problem I had was with the poster. The image was mirrored when we first applied it. What we did to correct the problem was to change the front axis to a negative and then it looked fine. I had a real hard time learning how to do good textures. The main thing I learned was to change the texture from planer to cubic. Making this change really helped because it helped my desk not look as flat and made it look 3d.

If I had more time to work on the scene I would have liked to add a dresser or something else to the room so it would look more natural. I would also have spent some time looking through some of the texturing tutorials to make my objects look more realistic. The main change I would make to my project would have been spending more time at the end of the project on making better lighting and playing around with different camera angles. I ran out of time and had to rush my two finished renderings.
