Vanessa Payne Desk Scene
 Someday...
Inspiration

Someday, I hope to work in a large advertising firm in the city with a big corner office. I acknowledge that this goal is one which I will need to work long and hard to achieve, but is this vision that gets me through the tough days we all endure at times. When I first began thinking of how I wanted to depict my desk scene I toyed with the ideas of a library scene, an office scene, or a bedroom scene. After drafting a few sketches, I settled on an office as the area in which I would place my desk. I have envisioned my corner office many times, and so I had a fairly vivid picture of how the room would be arranged. I thrive in natural light, and so putting in two huge windows was a must. I love large mahogany desks, and so I built my desk in a very simplistic, craftsman style desk with a dark stained wood surface. I imagine this as the ideal office space because of the surreal sky out the two oversized windows and the happy little plant perched on the edge of my desk. Of course, this scene would need more clutter and chaos if it really were my desk, but I like being about to create a neat, organized feel in this fantasy scene.

Problems and Solutions

I had originally wanted a Tiffany style desk lamp in my scene because I am drawn towards antiques and the warmth they bring to an otherwise boring room, but after a few trials, I decided a standing room light would work better not only for construction, but also for reflection of light. The original sketch had a huge, overstuffed chair to add to the almost masculine theme I initially was going for, but the chair would have been too difficult to make and I found one in Lightwave that I actually liked quite a bit. Being as this was my first experience using Lightwave, I had to overcome many technical complications sprung from sheer ignorance of the program format. With much help from my trusty TA and professor, I now feel more at ease with the program and look forward to further exploration into the wonders of Lightwave.
