| | Inspiration
I’ve always loved building things. I am not one to buy anything that I can potentially make myself. As a result I spend a lot of time in the garage. I also wanted to something very different from the standard desk scene that you find in a bedroom or office area. I thought that a scene with tools and wood in a garage would be a unique idea. Once I decided upon drawing a workbench type scene, I had to decide what kind of desk/workbench I wanted. I thought it would be humorous to have a door supported by cinder blocks as the desk, so that’s what I ended up doing.

| | Problems and Solutions
The main problem I had with this project is the lighting. I had a hard time getting the lamp light to work properly. The first problem I had was getting the light to shine out from the lamps. I never was able to get this to work so I ended up placing two spot lights right in front of the bulbs. I then created a half dome shape in modeler and placed it in front of the lamps and set its luminescence to 100%. I think they turned out very well in the long run, but there was a lot of frustration along the way. I also had some problems with the area light. What I wanted was a fuzzy shadow that was not sharp but not completely blurred. If I selected ray trace shadows I ended up with the sharp shadows, but if I selected the blurring shadows, there wasn’t enough definition. What I ended up doing was placing 5 point lights, with low intensity, in a horizontal line about 6 inches a part.
