Patricia McCarthy Desk Scene
 Something Ordinary
Inspiration

When I first heard that we were doing a desk scene, the first thing that popped into my mind was my own desk area.  It is a place that as been burned into my brain from sitting at it so much.  There was nothing else that I knew better, then my own desk.

Problems and Solutions

Throughout the making of this scene I ran into many problems.  I feel the main reason was because I did not know the program very well.  Although as time went on I managed to learn more and more about the program.

One of the first problems that I ran into was the positioning of certain pieces on my lamp, because of how I was making it.  Then I figured out to make all of the pieces and then rotate them accordingly to make the lamp bend.  The next was the lathe tool.  It kept making the objects larger then I wanted them to be.  Although I then just made my glass into a different shape and it just managed to work correctly.

Next was trying to get all of the textures to look good.  The hardest one was to try and give the ground a carpet look.  By doing that I tried to use the grass texture, but it would not appear after I rendered the picture.  So, I looked around for other textures and found another grass texture and it worked.  The other texture that I had a hard time with at first was the wood texture for the desk.  The pattern just looked the same all over and then I figured out that if you clicked on cubic then it would spread the texture over the entire surface, without repeating.  Also, my walls did not turn out, as I would have liked.  I could not find a texture that I liked enough, so I just gave it a smooth look.

Overall, as I ran into a problem I did my best to try and figure out how to fix it.  I feel that as I learn the program better I will be able to overcome the problems that I had in this project.
