Bruno Gohier Desk Scene
 NO ESCAPE
Inspiration

The hard part of college for me would be to get my homework done on sunny days. There is so much to do out there that my mind can not resist getting away. Mountaineering and rock climbing are two of my favorite outdoor activities and any reason is good to delay my homework when the sun is shinning and the sky is blue. I usually complete my work when I realize that the deadlines are coming soon.

This scene shows a room where someone had to work all night to complete its work due on March 2. Unfortunately, this person kept on thinking of the mountains (posters and window) and could not get anything on paper (white sheets = writer’s block).

Problems and Solutions

Lighting was a difficult task. I wanted to have light coming in from the window and it had to match the sun’s position on the outside background texture. I could solve this problem by finding the right position for the light and the right size for the texture so it could also fit the window’s dimensions. I did not want to see the tiling of the outside texture through the window.

Because candles don’t cast strong light, I also had to adjust the fading distance of the point light so it looks like a real candle.

Placing the objects in layout was a long task because not all the objects control where centered. The solution to this problem was to go back to Modeler and center all objects in their own world coordinates.

The posters would not show in layout because they were not facing the camera. I simply made the surface double-sided to be sure not to loose my posters in the scene again.

The plant was taken from the internet and was a .3ds file. By opening the file in Modeler, the polygons could be converted to a .lwo file.

Some textures from internet were .gif files and Lightwave would to not take it. I simply opened the files in MS Paint and saved them under a .jpg file that could be used.
