| | Inspiration
I wanted to produce something that had an oriental feel to it. I personally like that kind of style for interior design. However, I didn’t know what an oriental inspired desk would look like. I knew I wanted it to have a very smooth and curved shape to it. I wanted it to look inviting, so I just designed my own shape and created the desk and added very artsy legs. I also wanted it to be low to the ground because I wanted it to use an ottoman cube as the chair. I have always thought those were very nice and simple looking. It would also just store under the desk very easily. From there I just added elements that I thought would enhance the feel (like the paper lantern) and just tried to keep it very simple and clean. Minimalistic is the word that comes to mind.

| | Problems and Solutions
I think my biggest problem was getting the curved shape for the desk. I tried several different ways, but if I managed to get the curve I wanted then the bevel tool would not work on it. Eventually I just have to plot out the entire outline point by point. That was very time consuming and tedious. The second biggest problem was lighting. I wanted to have the room very well lit, but not have sharp, obvious shadows everywhere. The 3-point lighting tutorial helped me set it up, but was not quite good enough. Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about Lightwave to fix it to my liking. So it will just have to do the way it is. | |
